US, UN responsible for Palestinians’ plight, says Rabbani

KARACHI: The United Nations (UN) has failed to settle the Palestine and Kashmir disputes because it has been a tool in the hands of United States, said Adviser to Prime Minister Senator Mian Raza Rabbani on Friday.

Addressing the ‘International Palestine Conference’ at Faran Club held under the aegis of the Palestine Foundation Pakistan (PLF), Rabbani said the UN has been playing the role of a puppet of the US.

The conference announced unconditional support to Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah in their struggle for the liberation of Palestine and demanded that all Jewish settlements must be stopped forthwith and the Israeli troops sent back to their positions of 1967. The resolution also demanded the global human rights bodies to hold a probe into the recent Israeli attack on a freedom flotilla.

Rabbani said the entire world admires the historical struggle of Palestinians while Israel has made new records in human rights and international laws violations. Despite ideological differences between Hamas and Fatah, both parties wanted a free Palestinian state, he added.

He said the people of Pakistan, especially the youth, supported the Palestinian issue.

“The US must stop supporting the Zionist state,” he said.

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Secretary General Liaquat Baloch asked the Muslim rulers to shun their policy of appeasing the US and raise voice for the rights of the Muslim world.

He urged the Pakistani leadership and the Muslim world to make efforts for resolving the Palestine dispute and asked Muslim rulers to follow in the footsteps of Imam Khomeni.

Baloch criticised the criminal silence of Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Arab League, and Muslim rulers on the Palestine issue and warned that this would result in disobedience in their countries.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Central Leader Sardar Raheem said the Pakistani nation was playing an active role in the Palestine dispute and condemned the role of the UN and the Muslim rulers.

“Muslim governments lack courage to raise their voices in support of the oppressed people of Palestine,” he said.

Jaffaria Alliance Pakistan (JAP) President Allama Abbas Kumaili, referring to the present situation of Gaza in the wake of an Israeli invasion, said that 1.5 million Palestinians were besieged inside Gaza without basic necessities like food, medicines, milk and water, with the entire infrastructure of the city destroyed. All schools, hospitals and other buildings have been destroyed and tonnes of cement, iron and other construction material were urgently required to start reconstruction there, he added.

During the last ten years, the world has witnessed unwavering resistance of Hezbollah and Hamas for a just cause, he said.

“The people of Pakistan fully support the Palestinian nation and would not withdraw their just support to their Palestinian brothers under any pressure,” he announced.

Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan (JUP) leader Allama Qazi Ahmed Noorani said that an independent state of Palestine was the right of Palestinian people and it was obligatory upon the entire Muslim world to support the Palestinian people.

He demanded the International Court of Justice reprimand Israel for its criminal and illegal occupation of Palestine and the attack on freedom flotilla and warned that nobody would be safe from Israeli atrocities, if the Zionist regime was not punished for its activities against Palestinians.

Through a resolution passed on the occasion, the conference demanded the Pakistan government declare a public holiday on the Al-Quds Day (Jumatul Wida).
